Citizens for Public Schools (CPS) is a Massachusetts-wide coalition of more than 70 civic, civil rights, labor, religious and education organizations committed to strong, democratically accountable public schools. CPS believes that public schools are indispensable in our society, providing the vast majority of children with the knowledge and skills they need to play a productive role in our economy and system of government. Without inclusive public schools thousands of children would be denied the opportunity to learn and grow to their full potential. Since its founding in 1982, Citizens for Public Schools has been a leading voice for high academic standards, adequate and equitable education funding, needed bilingual and special education programs, small manageable classes, safe, up-to-date school buildings and voluntary integration efforts. CPS has worked tirelessly to ensure that public funds are not diverted to private and religious schools. CPS believes our society is best served when publicly-funded schools are accountable to the whole community and open to all children. CPS strongly believes that a clear delineation between church and state advances the goals of public education and religious liberty.
